A Return to Ink and Paper
In an era of endless scrolling and fleeting digital noise, The Kelso Journal offers a deliberate pause. It is a celebration of slow reading, local heritage, and the simple, nostalgic joy of receiving a thoughtful dispatch in the post.
Published monthly by Tide Pool Publishing in the heart of the Scottish Borders, every issue is designed to be kept, collected, and enjoyed over a quiet morning coffee.
What Arrives in the Post?
Your monthly subscription is carefully assembled by hand in Kelso and arrives in a custom-printed envelope, bearing our hallmark and franked for delivery. Inside, you will find three distinct pieces:
The Journal The centrepiece of the subscription. Unfolding to a generous A4 broadsheet the journal is printed on a premium 130gsm silk finish. This specific paper stock was chosen to mirror the warmth and weight of a vintage gazette while offering the crisp durability of modern printing. Inside, you will find seasonal observations, local folklore, historical deep-dives, and tales from the River Tweed, all beautifully typeset in classic serif fonts.
The Keepsake Art Card Because the beauty of the Borders deserves to be preserved, every issue is accompanied by an exclusive A5 art card. Printed on heavy, archival quality stock, these illustrations and seasonal captures of Kelso are designed to be framed. Over time, subscribers will build a stunning, tactile gallery of Borders life.
The Editor's Letter A folded A4 letter directly from the editor's desk. This personal note introduces the month's themes, shares brief behind-the-scenes glimpses of the publishing process, and sets the tone for the reading experience ahead.
Dispatch and Delivery
The physical craft of The Kelso Journal means it operates on a traditional publishing schedule.
Subscriptions are gathered throughout the month, and the finished envelopes are handed directly to the Kelso postmaster. UK deliveries are sent via Royal Mail Second Class to encourage a slower, more deliberate pace of life, while our international readers receive their copies via Royal Mail International Standard, securely bridging the gap between the Scottish Borders and the rest of the world.
